Last weekend I had my first race of the year: the Basildon Aquathlon. It was a good start the season as I came away with 1st place in my age group. However, the run was a cross-country run around the sport centre's park with 3 hills, and anyone who knows me well knows that I DO NOT like cross country! I didn't enjoy it but it was nice to see how my run training is going before I start stepping up ready for my big races in May and June. I enjoyed the swim as I didn't have to count the lengths (which I usually forget to do!) as it was a snake through the lanes and under the ropes - 16 lengths in all., All I had to concentrate on was keeping my new trisuit up, which I found out the minute I pushed off the wall at the start that it was too big for me and filled up with water! Oh well, at least I found out on a 400m swim rather than one of my 750 or 1500m races as its amazing how many seconds a trisuit full of water can add on - although a very expensive lesson!
