With winter training in full swing now, I rarely have time to update on my blog. However, with a 51 mile hard bike ride on Sunday under my belt, I feel like a little update is needed.
Over the past few months, I have been building up the miles in both the run and the bike, and ranking up the kilometres in the swim. With summer training quickly approaching, I'm looking forward to getting in some speed work. The hardest bike ride by far was the one on Sunday. Starting at 9am with Essex Roads, we didn't get back until 2pm! A total of 51 miles of constant hills (ranging from 6mph up to 35mph down!) and speed work, I was thankful for the previous amount of distance work I had done because if I hadn't, I wouldn't have been able to keep up with the big guys! We started off with 15 people in our group but a few people dropped back to form a slower group and we finally finished with only 6 people and i was the only junior. For some people, this ride would have been a walk in the park (as a couple of the guys on the ride found it!), for a 17 year old girl cycling with a bunch of strong, grown men, it was far from easy. But i proved i could hold my own and step outside my comfort zone. Although I hated it at the time, thinking about it now I really enjoyed pushing myself :)
