Saturday I had my first cycling race of 2016 at Redbridge Cycling Centre. It was a beautiful day (the first day the temperature was in double figures for ages)
With a bunch of over 50 women (with me being the youngest), the race was a fast one as it was all flat. I didn't realise how fast they set off on the first few warm-up laps (obviously trying to drop as many as possible before the actual start) so when the start whistle went off, it took me by surprise at the ridiculous speed we were going at and I had to sprint just to keep up with them all! The race lasted 45 minutes with a 5 lap count down at the end. I could feel the speed picking up with every lap closer to the finish. As I wasn't at the front of the pack, I wasn't in the full-out sprint for the line which is lucky as there was a huge crash just before the line. One of my team mates Gill was in the middle of it, and she came off pretty bad. Get well soon Gill. In the midst of all the chaos on the line, none of the marshalls were able to write down who was 1st, 2nd, 3d etc., and someone helping with the injured stood right in front of the finishing camera, so no results were published!! Anyway, it was a good race, I felt good, and it signals the start of my race season. Roll on 2016.
