After only 2 weeks back to training after my rest, I wasn't expecting too much from this race. However, my dad was racing with me, so I was determined to beat him! Of course, we both thought we would win, but really I think he was just nervous that his 18 year old daughter would beat him!
I really liked this race - the course was undulating but not too hilly, and it was only 1 loop. Most people know that I hate a course that has multiple loops, I would rather not know what was coming so I don't hold back in any way. From the very start, a group of us stayed together, often switching places, but with about 3k to go, the group started to stretch out a little. I was struggling to keep up with them, but I felt like I was on for a good time, so I just stuck to my race plan that Kris had given me and ran to the end. When I got to about 400m to the finish, I found another burst of energy and sprinted to the finish line, beating some of the men who I had been running with! I knew I had beaten my dad as he hadn't gone past me from the start, so I was already quite happy before I found out that I had got a PB! I was not expecting that at my first race back from my rest! That also meant that I received 1st place under 21, and 5th female overall! I'm starting to get really excited about what I can do in a few months from now if I am already getting a PB! P.S. Commiserations Dad, all those years when you were beating me have now ended!
